The Boathouse at Glen Island is part
of an initiative to improve public access to the waterfront
of the Orchard Beach Lagoon.
Pelham Community Rowing Association (PCRA),
in cooperation with Westchester County Parks and the Town
of Pelham, proposes to build and manage a self-sustaining
regional rowing center on the grounds of Glen Island in
New Rochelle, New York. PCRA was formed in 2003 as a community
rowing organization and has operated a number of programs
for all ages, ranging from learn to row programs to nationally
competitive athletic programs. The PCRA community boathouse,
modeled after historic boathouses, will serve as a regional
center for local rowing now and in the future.
The Orchard Beach Lagoon is the best rowing
course in the New York Metropolitan area. To date, PCRA
has received $150,000 in grants from New York State and
Assemblywoman Amy Paulin.
The Boathouse will be the home for masters
and high school rowing programs, as well as community and
adaptive rowing programs. Many high schools who utilize
the Boathouse and its various aquatic opportunities will
be eligible for college rowing scholarships or admission
to top educational institutions.
PCRA seeks your donation now so that the
dream of a community Boathouse can be realized. |
